Kandan yenakke sondamadi,
Perum karunai peyyum Sivakami mainthanadi

Anupallavi

Munthai vinai theerkkum, moo ulagai kaakum,
Mantra porul sonna mamayil vahanan adi

Charanam

Vindai pala purintha vettuva veeranadi,
Viruthan vadivedutha valli manavalanadi,
Chinthayil adugindra senthamizh velanadi,
Chendhoor vazhum Shanmukha nadanadi

English Translation

Pallavi

Oh friend, kandhan is only mine,
He is the son of most merciful Shivakami.

Anupallavi

Oh friend, He is the one who removes past Karmas,
He is the one who protects the three worlds,
He is the one who rides on peacock and,
Told the meaning of the chant Om.

Charanam

Oh friend he is the valorous hunter who did miracles,
He is the one who came as an old man and married Valli,
He is the Velan who dances in our thoughts,
He is the Lord Shanmuka who lives in Thiruchendhoor.

Mahishasuranin siram vizha Seythaye,
Marakatha meniyodu thavam purinthaye,
Makara yaazhil swara bhavam kandaye,
Mathi mukhamum ser vizhiyum kondaye.

English Translation

Pallavi

Mother Meenakshi shower your grace,
Daughter of Malayadwaja, Oh Goddess of Madurai

Anupallavi

You married the god praised by devas,
Who makes the devas happy,
And merged in to his left side

Charanam

You cut and fell the head of Mahishasura,
You did penance with the emerald body of yours,
You sang and found musical notes in Makara Veena,
You had a face like moon and fish like eyes.

Theera vinai agathum yen uyir neshanadi,
Akhilam azhindalum avanai maravenadi,
Arul purivan yendru uruthi kondenadi

1. Pada sevai aagilam thara solladi,

2. Shoodi koduthavalai koodi mana maalai shoodi,
Magizhnthidum maal avan thaanadi

3. Aadhi moolam yena olamitta madha aanai,
Mun chendru arul purinthanadi,
Aal ilai mel thuyil kondu iruppanadi,
Arumaio perumayudan azhaithodi vaadi

4. Pancha pandavarin kurayai theerthavanadi,Bala gopalanadi,
Anji nadungiya annai Panchali avalam kettu thugil thandhanadi
Vanchaka minchiya ravanadhigalai veeran anumanthanudan vendraana adi,
Thanjamendru thavam irunhiduvenadi, thane vandhu manam purinthiduvanadi.

English Translation

Pallavi

Hey friend, Why is this trick,
Ask my God to come here,
At this time my mind melts during day and night,
I hate both milk and rice when I see them.

Anupallavi

He lives in the hill where God holds the conch,
He is my friend who removes accumulated karma,
Even if the entire universe is destroyed, I would not forget him,
And I am definite that he would shower his grace.

Charanam

1. Ask him to give permission to worship his feet

2. He is only Lord Vishnu who married,
The lady who gave him the garland she already wore.

3. He went and showered his grace on,
That elephant that entreated loudly, "Oh primeval basis"
Oh friend, he would lie down on a banyan leaf,
Please bring him with great hospitality.

4. He is the young Gopala, who relieved the problems of the Pandavas,
Hearing the bad troubles of mother Panchali who was shivering out of fear, he gave her dress,
He won over Ravana who had won using deceit with the help of valorous Hanuman,
I would do penance seeking his support and he would come himself and marry me.

English Translation

Pallavi
Go and bring my God, Oh friend,
His great moon like face is shining like embers

Anupallavi

Why delay, this is the nectar like spring time,
He is a God who created the six faced one,
Who taught him the meaning of Vedas
And whose fame is sung by whole earth,
And who is appreciated by pretty deva maiden (Or who likes Deva manohari ragam)
He wanders everywhere just like an orphan,
And he hides a lady in half of his body.
Charanam

By always thinking about Lord Shiva my love for him is going beyond

1. He is the one who is appreciated by Lord Vishnu

2. Oh friend, I searched and searched for him and said he cannot be found,
And suddenly he stood before me like millions of God of love

3. He told me he would marry me publicly and made several promises,
And not understanding that I have self-respect he made me want and worry for him.

4. With river Ganges on his matted hair and moon shaking with him,
With music dancing, and raga mangala bhairavi,
Dancing in that crowd, and with Vishnu and Brahma singing and keeping beats.

1. Ma mathi mukhattai kana vendum yendru

2. Kalla thanamum kondu, mella nadandhu vandhu,
Thalladi thalladi valli mel vizhundavarukku

3. Vanna mamayil yeri ingu vara yennama, yemathama,
Indha mannum vinum yeno chuzaluthadi,
Kannum urangathu kathu mirppen yendru

4. Oru naal yen kanavinil vanthanadi, perum vinai thanadi,
Karunai ullam arul puriyum endru thavam irundum oru payan illayadi,
Ilam paruva kalam thirumba varumodi,

English Translation

Oh friend, Please request the God to come,
The God who is praised in land of Muruga,
Who is the lad who makes Goddess Shivakami happy,

Anupallavi

Should you cause delay, for at this time,
He makes me confused by sending arrows of god of love,

Charanam

Tell me, is his heart stone, Why is he doing these tricks

1. With a desire to see the full moon like face

2. The one with deceit in his mind, he walked and came slowly,
And tottered and tottered and fell on Goddess Valli

3. Is he thinking of coming here riding on the coloured peacock, is it deceit,
Somehow this earth and sky seem to rotate.
And the eyes tell that they will wait without sleeping.

4. One day he came in my dream, it was a great event,
There was no use of doing penance thinking that,
His merciful mind will one day shower his grace,
Will the time of early youth come again?
Will the state of living with a melted mind cease?
And my hands are shivering to hug,
The one living on Pazhani mountain and is giving me this.

English Translation

Pallavi

Oh my friend, Ask Lord Muruga to come,
He will be riding on a great peacock in the garden

Anupallavi

He was born out of the eye of him who fought with God of death,
He is the king of kings who makes Lord Vishnu happy,
He showed his six faces and then disappeared,
He would be sitting in the six Padai Veedus of Murugan,
He was the one who killed the asuras who differed with him,
He would cut them and tie them well

Charanam

Oh girl, I will never ever forget,
And I have made mind very firm

(Ettukada Lyrics)

1. He is the great merciful one saluted by the people of this world,

2. He is the Vaithi Subramanya who removed the past Karmas,
He is the husband of Valli who has taken strange forms,

3. He would get mixed in all stones and grasses,
He would be in all words and actions,
He would do service to the ancient devas,
He is very able and has a handsome form, oh lass

4. He called Lord Shiva to Swami Malai,
And told the meanings of Vedas to him,
All day long he shut in prison,
Lord Brahma who is appreciated by Goddess Saraswathi,
He heard the Thirupugazh of Arunagiri Nathar,
Which removes bad things and gave him his grace,
Why further delay, go as my emissary,
And I would perform penance telling that I need his support.

English Translation

Who is the man who created tantrums outside our gate,
Oh Friend, Please find out his native place and his name and tell me.

Is he the dancer of the wealthy Chidambaram,
Is he god of the divine hills who puts an end to the Karma load,
Is he the world famous Subrahmanya, Is he the consort of Saraswathi,
Go and see, why are you afraid and put an end to my need, Of pretty one.

Charanam

One of them said that it is a lisping voice,
Another One said it is the red pretty eyes,
Another one said that it is a streak of lightning,
Another said it is her swan like gait,
What does it matter to whoever he is to us,
Ask for six thousand gold coins,
At least one thousand of them would easily give it.

Oruvane deivamendru uruthi sonnanadi,
Nila porul yavum than uyir endranadi,

English Translation

Oh friend tell me are there any one,
Who is as pure as Jesus.

Anupallavi

He is full of affection, friendship and culture,
He is the one who does no bad to others.

1. Oh friend, He was born on a good day,
Oh friend, He was there as the leader of men,
Oh friend, He took all problems on himself and smiled.
2. Oh friend, He formulated the path for the whole world to improve,
Oh friend, he told with certainty that there is only one God,
Oh Friend, he told that all things on the earth are his soul,
Oh friend he insulted the pride of self.

3. Oh friend, He was a wise man knowing Vedas,
Oh Friend, He was a genius who did not have any difference,
Oh friend, we will obey the ten commandments told by him,
Oh friend, we will sing the fame of the Lord and salute him.
